National Boat Safety Week
Memorial Day Weekend this year concludes what is now National Boat Safety Week. State and local officials are urging boat operators to use this opportunity to inspect their watercraft and be thinking about a safe start to boating season.
As the article above describes, Lake Tahoe will be observing National Boat Safety Week along with the rest of the country. Coast Guard personnel will be here to inspect boats for safety and provide operators with tips to keep safe this season.
Most important is for drivers to take boating seriously. Distracted driving can happen on a boat, just like a car. It is also imperative to make sure your boat is properly equipped with life jackets, fire extinguisher and a paddle. Lastly, boating under the influence is quite dangerous and a crime just like DUI.
Expect to see an increased law enforcement presence this Memorial Day on Lake Tahoe. Authorities will be looking for nautical violations (too many passengers, not enough life jackets, boat registration) as well as boating under the influence. So, be careful out there and get this boating season started off right this Memorial Day Weekend.
